Martius (Roman month)
Martius was the forerunner of our month March . At the beginning of the Roman calendar it was the first month of the year of office. It corresponded to the Etruscan month of Velitanus , but was named after the Roman god of war Mars .
When 153 BC Chr. Moved the beginning of the year to January 1st, Martius became the third month of the year of office . However, the calendar reform of Gaius Iulius Caesar left it unchanged at 31 days.
