Johann Faber (industrialist)

Johann Faber (born June 14, 1819 in Stein near Nuremberg ; † January 15, 1901 there ) was a German industrialist .

Life

Family and education

Johann Faber, son of the pencil manufacturer Georg Leonhard Faber (1788–1839) and his wife Sophie, née Kupfer (1790–1845), who came from Cadolzburg , two years younger brother of the industrialist Lothar von Faber , completed a commercial apprenticeship after attending the Nuremberg business school .

Johann Faber married Käte, nee Meißner, in 1848. There were four children from this marriage. Johann Faber died in January 1901 at the age of 82 in Stein near Nuremberg.

Professional background

After completing his apprenticeship, Johann Faber spent several years abroad. Most recently he was employed in the hotel industry in Prague . In 1840 he was appointed to his parents' pencil factory by his brother, in 1847 he was made a partner in the company and head of the manufacture, and in 1878 he left the family business.

In 1880 he founded his own pencil factory "Johann Faber" in Nuremberg , in the following year he opened his own houses in Paris and London , and later an agency in New York . He supplied the market on all continents via his own traveling salesmen. In 1895 the company became a stock corporation . In 1931/1932 the Johann Faber pencil factory was taken over by Faber-Castell
