Johann Ferdinand Friedrich Schlez ( pseudonym : Wilhelm Denker (the Younger) ; born June 27, 1759 in Ippesheim , † September 7, 1839 in Schlitz ) was a German Protestant clergyman , educator and writer .

Life

Schlez's father was a pastor in Ippesheim. It was there that the boy received his first education before he went to high school in Windsheim in 1773 . He stayed there until 1776. Then he received further lessons from a pastor, before finally taking up studies at the University of Jena in 1778 . He had completed his studies until 1781, after which he was assistant chaplain to his father.

Schlez took over the pastor's post in Ippesheim after his father's death. From 1795 he was active as a journalist. His literary work aroused the interest of Count Karl Görtz von Schlitz . In 1799 he appointed him as school inspector and consistorial councilor. As such, Schlez reformed the school system there and also tried to improve the position of teachers. For his 50th anniversary of the Office awarded him the Grand Duke Ludwig of Hesse , the Knight's Cross of the 27 November 1831 Grand Ducal Ludwig Order and the Faculty of Theology of the University of Giessen , the honorary doctorate ( Dr. theol. Hc ). In 1832 he finally retired .

Johann-Ferdinand-Schlez-Strasse in Schlitz and Am Ferdinand-Schlez-Platz in Ippesheim were named after him.
