Count Johann Franz d'Escars du Peyrusse (born November 15, 1747 in Paris ; † September 9, 1822 ibid) was a Prussian major general and later a French lieutenant-général and high court marshal of the French king Louis XVIII. .

Life

origin

His father was Count Jean d'Escars, maitre d'hotel en Survivance aupres de la cour de Louis XVI.

Military career

He was inducted into the Order of Malta in 1760 and joined the French Navy in 1764. But in 1766 he became a sous-lieutenant in the king's army. In 1770 he was promoted to captain and in 1774 he was already colonel in the Régiment d'Artois dragons . On March 9, 1783 he became Maréchal de camp . The French Revolution came in 1789 and in 1790 he left with the Count d'Artois to whose court he belonged. He went on diplomatic missions to Berlin , Vienna and Stockholm . On May 5, 1793 he was appointed major general of the cavalry and titular officer of the army by the Prussian king.

On May 18, 1799, he received leave and went to Baden near Vienna. In 1805 he returned to France, but under Napoleon his position was not easy. After the return of Louis XVIII. on the French throne in 1814, he was appointed its Oberhofmarschall. In 1815 the king appointed him lieutenant general, Duke d'Escars and premier maitre d'hotel du roi Louis XVIII. He died in Paris on September 9, 1822 and was buried on September 12, 1822.

family

On May 5, 1783, he married Pauline de Laborde (1767–1792), daughter of the banker Jean-Joseph de Laborde . His second wife was on January 21, 1798 in Berlin Rosalie Maire Therese de Rancher, widowed Marquise of Nadailar (* October 20, 1761, † August 2, 1842).
