Johann Friedrich Cartheuser

Johann Friedrich Cartheuser (born September 29, 1704 in Hayn (Harz) , † June 22, 1777 in Frankfurt (Oder) ) was a German chemist and physician.

Johann Friedrich Cartheuser probably began his scientific career in Halle (Saale) , where his son Friedrich August was born. He came to the Brandenburg University of Frankfurt as a doctor of medicine , where he became professor of chemistry and pharmacy, and later of pathology and therapy. By researching the effects of plant juices, he had a considerable influence on the development of pharmacy.

In 1758 he was accepted as a foreign member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences .
