Johann Friedrich Fritz
Johann Friedrich Fritz (born July 31, 1798 in Wandsbek ( Holstein ), † March 1, 1870 in Altona ( Prussia )) was a German painter and lithographer .
Life
Johann Friedrich Fritz, son of a stove manufacturer presumably from Bavaria, was a student of the Hamburg painter and etcher Christopher Suhr from 1819 at the latest , who probably also taught him the then new technique of lithography. His earliest surviving work, probably made in 1819, is a portrait of the Turkish ambassador Ismael Gibraltar after a drawing by Suhr. From June 21, 1821 he studied history painting at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich and from the end of 1823 at the Royal Danish Academy of Art in Copenhagen . There he took part in the annual exhibitions from 1824 to 1826. While still in Copenhagen in April 1826, he asked to be allowed to found a lithographic printing company in Flensburg with the local citizen Hans Peter Behrens ("Flensburger Steruck von Behrens & Fritz"). The company was quite successful from 1828. In addition to business papers, art sheets, portraits and views were printed. From 1828 the company was involved in the project of a folder with 34 lithographs based on the India ink drawings by Conrad Christian Bøhndels based on the Bordesholmer Altar . In 1828 he married Johanne Cecilie Mariane von Neuendahl.
In 1837/38 Behrens left the company, which was now called "JF Fritz's lithography". It was getting worse and worse economically. After the failed Schleswig-Holstein uprising in 1848 , Fritz had to leave Flensburg and first went to Rendsburg and later to Altona. There he worked occasionally for the lithographic company of Charles Fuchs , he did not reopen his own company.
