Johann Friedrich Vollmar
Johann Friedrich Vollmar (* 1751 in Wil SG ; † 1818 in Säckingen ) was a sculptor and artist of classicism
Life
Johann Friedrich Vollmar came from a family whose ancestors held the office of executioner in Riedlingen . At the time of his son's birth, his father was seconded to the services of the St. Gallen abbot in Wil. He died in Säckingen in 1818. Johann Vollmar had 15 children from two marriages, who were born in three different cities and of whom only four can be proven to be of adulthood.
progeny
One son was Joseph Vollmar. He probably returned to Säckingen in 1828 from an apprenticeship in Riedlingen with his uncle Bernhard. He was married three times and had a total of ten children from the first two marriages. In addition to his profession as a painter, sculptor, altar builder and copper engraver, he also temporarily worked as a town architect. He was also the first drawing teacher at the Säckingen Citizens' School, founded in 1863. He died on October 8, 1870 in Säckingen. His only known student so far was the painter Urban Pfeiffer (born May 25, 1841 in Nöggenschwiel ; † February 5, 1902 in Munich).
Of the ten children of Joseph Vollmar baptized in Säckingen, only four reached adulthood. The first-born Josef Friedrich, with the nickname of his grandfather and father, also became a painter and sculptor, but died at the age of 18. The other sons, Viktor Vollmar, born in September 1831, became a painter and sculptor in Basel. His younger half-brother, Ludwig Vollmar , born on January 7, 1842 , also became a respected painter and lived in Munich, where he, like his father, had studied at the Munich Academy. He liked to paint scenes from the Black Forest and Upper Bavarian folk life.
