Johann Georg Böschenstein (born November 3, 1804 in Stein am Rhein ; † May 14, 1885 ibid) was a Swiss politician and judge .

biography

The son of a cooper was the owner of the specialty and grocery store "Zum Steinadler" in Stein am Rhein. From 1834 to 1836 Böschenstein was a judge at the Schaffhausen cantonal court , from 1835 to 1839 at the higher court . His political career began in 1834 when he was elected to the Cantonal Council , from 1839 he served as a Councilor and chaired it several times. Between 1841 and 1848 he represented the canton of Schaffhausen several times as a delegate from the Diet ; He spoke out in favor of the violent dissolution of the Sonderbund .

Böschenstein was a member of the commission that drafted the Federal Constitution of 1848. In the first national elections he was elected to the National Council in October 1848, but he resigned at the beginning of 1850. Böschenstein supported steam shipping on the Rhine and was a member of the board of directors of the Swiss Northeast Railway from 1862 to 1866 . He also remained Schaffhausen government councilor until 1866.
