Johann Georg Hauer (born November 8, 1853 in Sieding ; † November 9, 1905 in Vienna ) was an Austrian dialect poet .

Life

Johann Georg Hauer was born into a farming family. His parents were Maria and Simon Hauer. After attending primary school in Sieding and then grammar school in Wr. Neustadt he was a novice at Heiligenkreuz Abbey for a short time . He then began studying classical philology at the University of Vienna .

He also learned numerous foreign languages ​​at the university. In a description of his duties from 1878 it says among other things: "Speaks and writes German very well, Latin and Greek correctly and fluently, French, Italian and English ...!"

He then completed a one-year volunteer to military service , made the campaign in Bosnia and Herzegovina with and knew service in the Reich Ministry of War in Vienna. In 1889 he joined the Ministry of Culture and Education. He married a year later at the age of 34. He took up university studies again in 1888. On February 15, 1890 he received his doctorate in philosophy . In 1902 he was appointed librarian of the Central Statistical Commission. Hauer died on November 9th, 1905. He was buried in the cemetery in Mauer .

Johann Georg Hauer also worked as a dialect poet. His first work - called Edelweiss - appeared in 1885.

In 1899 he brought out his first play Der Pfeifer von Sieding , a peasant tragedy in five acts, which comprised 116 pages and received positive reviews in the press . In 1901 the popular play Herrisch und Bäurisch appeared.

In the course of time he wrote eight other, unpublished plays, all of them peasant comedies and folk plays. Their titles were: 's Bodern sei' Goass , s'Landfieber , Der Köhlerthomerl , Der Erbneid , Der Almhof , Johannistrieb , Der Raubschütz and Der staggered Herrgott . It is not known whether these were listed and whether the manuscripts have survived.
