Johann Georg Kummer (* approx. 1720 ; † after 1800 ) was a German organ builder .

Life

Johann Georg Kummer did his training in the workshop of Johann Michael Wagner and received a "Princely Organ Building Privilege" for his good work. In 1760 he started his own workshop in Dachwig as an organ builder. It is reported from him that he “created remarkable sound bodies in Erfurt (er) churches”. He also built numerous smaller organs in the village churches in the area. In 1794 he was registered in Erfurt and received a renewed privilege of the ephorie Saalfeld .

Kummer is considered to be the founder of the Dachwig organ building tradition, from which organ builders such as Johann Michael Hesse , Ernst Ludwig Hesse, Georg Andreas Hesse, Ernst Siegfried Hesse, Albin Hickmann, Georg Hoecke, Max Andreas and Alfred Andreas emerged. In the 19th century, up to 50 people were busy building organs in Dachwig. In 1951 the organ building was stopped there.
