Johann Gottfried Misler (lawyer)

Johann Gottfried Misler (born August 9, 1720 in Hamburg ; † October 7, 1789 there ) was a German lawyer , author and senior senior secretary of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.

Life

Misler was the son of the same name theologian Johann Gottfried Misler (1679-1748) and his wife Anna Catharina Matthaei (1693-1750), daughter of the provost of the church district Bederkesa , born Martin Matthaei (1666-1728) in Hamburg. After his school education at the learned school of the Johanneum and the Academic Gymnasium in Hamburg, Misler studied law from 1742 at the University of Leipzig and the University of Gießen . In 1747 he completed his studies with a licentiate in law . He returned to Hamburg, where he was a 1748 lawyer admitted and in 1750 a member of the Lower Court . On September 28, 1762, he was elected senior secretary as successor to Justus Vincent Ritter (1715–1774), who was elected senator, and held this office until his death in 1789. He was succeeded by Vincent Oldenburg (1759–1833). Misler was also court master of the Hospital of the Holy Spirit .

family

Misler married on August 1, 1754 Maria Schramm (1734–1777), daughter of the Hamburg merchant Hieronymus Schramm (1701–1751) from his first marriage to Maria von Beseler (1694–1740). His wife died of tuberculosis on June 7, 1777 after giving birth to 11 children:
