Life

Oldenburg was born as the son of the Hamburg senior citizen Marcus Oldenburg (1723–1795) from his first marriage to Catharina Magdalena Cramer. After finishing school, he studied law at the University of Göttingen and received his doctorate there on April 25, 1780 as a licentiate in canonical and secular law. He returned to his hometown and became a judge here in 1782 and President of the Hamburg Lower Court in 1783 . In 1788 Oldenburg was elected head of the general poor institution and on October 29, 1789 as successor to Johann Gottfried Misler (1720–1789) as senior secretary. On March 11, 1807, he finally became a Senate Syndicate. In 1826 he applied for release from his official duties due to illness. Despite the support of the Senate , this application was rejected several times by the citizens . Ultimately, Oldenburg was dispensed from all offices and retired on November 10, 1830 without a pension. Vincent Oldenburg died unmarried in Hamburg in 1833.
