Johann Gottfried Teske

Johann Gottfried Teske (also: Taeschke, Teschke ; * May 3, 1704 in Königsberg ; † May 25, 1772 ibid) was a German physicist .

Life

Teske studied at the University of Königsberg from 1719 and moved to the University of Halle, where he acquired the degree of master's degree on May 27, 1726 . On August 10, 1726, when he returned to the university in his hometown of Königsberg, he became lecturer in philosophy, in 1728 extraordinary professor of logic and metaphysics and in 1729 full professor of physics. In 1733 he was appointed Samland consistorial councilor. He also became vice-president and an official at the consistory .

In 1760 he was awarded an honorary professorship at the University of St. Petersburg as an honorary member of the Russian Academy of Sciences . Teske's most famous pupil was Immanuel Kant , whom he accompanied as a mentor in acquiring the master’s degree and supported him with his work on fire (de igne). Teske, who was the first physicist at the Königsberg University, dealt with the research of electricity. He had also participated in the organizational tasks of the Königsberg University. He was dean of the philosophical faculty and in the summer semester of 1772 rector of the alma mater.
