Johann Gottlieb Rintsch

Johann Gottlieb Rintsch (born June 2, 1788 in Wittenberg ; † January 12, 1867 in Neustadt an der Orla ) was a theologian , superintendent and pastor in Neustadt an der Orla.

Life

Johann Gottlieb Rintsch was born on June 2, 1788 in Wittenberg, went to community school there, then attended grammar school and studied theology there . The French War interrupted his studies and so he did not get the degree of Magister in Dresden until 1810/11 . From 1811 to 1814 he was a private tutor in Mylau . In the spring of 1814 he took over the position of superintendent and pastor in Neustadt an der Orla. In August 1816 he married the eldest daughter of the deacon Hebenstreit in Neustadt. His first wife died in 1821 and the marriage remained childless. In August 1822 he married for the second time, this time to the sister of the first wife. This marriage also remained childless.

In 1839 he celebrated his silver jubilee in office and on March 13, 1864 his golden jubilee in office. Because of his merits, he was awarded the Knight's Cross 2nd Class by the Order of the Falcons on this occasion , he was appointed a doctor of theology by the University of Jena and he was awarded the diploma as an honorary citizen of the city of Neustadt an der Orla. He died on January 12, 1867 in Neustadt an der Orla.

In addition to his work in the church , Johann Gottlieb Rintsch was also committed to helping disadvantaged people in Neustadt. Under his hand a “child protection and employment institution” was founded in Neustadt, in which poor and orphaned children were taken care of. On the occasion of his 50th anniversary in office in 1864, the institution was named the "Rintsch Foundation". In order to counteract child begging, he founded the first “kindergarten” in 1853.
