Johann Grimm

Johann Grimm (born September 15, 1675 in Bern ; † October 3, 1747 there ) was a Swiss painter .
Live and act
Johann Grimm was the son of the pastor of the same name, Johann Grimm, teacher, preacher at Inselspital , pastor in Boltigen 1683, in Oberburg 1691, and Barbara Freudenreich. He was married to a Mrs. Bäckli. Grimm grew up in the Simmental. He trained with Joseph Werner in Bern. In 1695 he traveled to Rome. Eventually he took over Werner's painting school. His students included u. a. Johann Ludwig Aberli , who followed him as head of the painting school.
Portraits of Johann Georg Altmann and of the Fankhauser and Kupferschmid families in Burgdorf have been preserved from Grimm , the gate of honor in the Bern Burger Library from 1726 and numerous vedutas of the cities of Burgdorf and Bern.
