Life

The trained master carpenter Johann Gutmann had been active as a gliding instructor at ESV-Amstetten Flugsport since 1978. Gutmann later processed this experience in his book Mein Flug um die Welt - Diary of a solo flight around the world in a self-made airplane .

For a previously unexplained cause, Gutmann's Cessna 172 aircraft crashed on June 18, 2011 in Bobbio. Another person died in the crash. An initially seriously injured fellow passenger died later in hospital due to severe burns and fractures.
