Johann Heinrich Breitinger

Johann Heinrich Breitinger (born February 26, 1774 in Zurich ; † June 22, 1848 there ) was a Swiss Reformed clergyman .

Life

Johann Heinrich Breitinger was born in Zurich on February 26, 1774 as the son of pastor David Breitinger, who himself is descended from Johann Jakob Breitinger , and Anna Heidegger. After receiving training in his hometown, he was ordained in 1796 and the following year he spent as a tutor in Kilchberg ZH . In the same year he took over a pastor's position in Herbishofen . He became a deacon at St. Peterskirche in Zurich in 1802, and 28 years later he was promoted to pastor there. He held this pastoral office until his death on June 22, 1848 at the age of 74.

Breitinger's son was the literary historian Heinrich Breitinger .
