Johann Heinrich Peters (born February 2, 1697 in Braunschweig ; † March 22, 1754 ibid) was a German stone sculptor .

life and work

In 1729 he can be traced back to Wernigerode , where he married the widow of the court builder Drößel and acquired citizenship in Nöschenrode . Since his wife's first husband had died shortly before, it was obvious that Peters would continue his workshop and carry out sculpting work for the Counts of Stolberg -Wernigerode, for example in the St. Sylvestri Church and several tombs, including for Countess Maria Elisabeth Stolberg-Wernigerode. He stayed in Wernigerode until 1738, then returned to Braunschweig.

Johann Heinrich Peters created the sarcophagus in the crypt of the Brunswick Cathedral for Duke Albrecht of Brunswick, who fell at Soor on November 30, 1745 , a brother of Duke Karl I. Not only the alabaster was supplied by a marble master Schwerin from Blankenburg , he worked the workpiece also off and polished it in all likelihood. Presumably Johann Heinrich Peters' son Heinrich August Peters , also a stone sculptor, carried out and completed the sculptural work based on his father's design. The installation of the sarcophagus by Heinrich August Peters is secured after the death of his father, he also took over the father's workshop.
