Life and work

After the family moved to Freiburg / Elbe (Stade district), Johann Heinrich Vogel, son of the Prussian medical council Dr. med. Vogel, the secondary schools in Vegesack and Harburg. In 1882 he moved to the University of Halle and joined the Germania Halle fraternity there . First he studied modern languages, but then switched to chemistry. After a semester in Freiburg (Breisgau) he came to Göttingen in 1883 and participated in the reopening of the Hannovera fraternity . In 1887 he graduated, he had extended to agricultural areas, and was with the dissertation "On the chemical composition of Vesuvians " Dr. phil. PhD. He then worked as an assistant at the agricultural research institute at the University of Bonn, before taking on a similar position at the University of Göttingen. He then set up an agricultural chemistry laboratory at the University of Coimbra in Portugal.

In 1891 Vogel became an assistant at the Agricultural University in Berlin, which later awarded him the title of professor. In 1892 he took over the post of scientific manager of the fertilizer department of the German Agricultural Society . From 1907 he ran his own research laboratory in Berlin. At the same time he was an employee in the rank of Council IV class of the Prussian State Institute for Hydrology in Berlin.

As can be seen from the succession of his various scientific publications, Johann Heinrich Vogel was temporarily concerned with improving the fertilization of agricultural areas and later with keeping rivers and lakes clean. His actual field of work, however, was acetylene . He was not only interested in the gas itself, but also in its technical use.
