Johann Heinrich Wedekind
Johann Heinrich Wedekind (* 15. August 1674 in Reval (now Tallinn ), † 8. October 1736 ) was an in Sweden and later in the courtyard of the Great Peters acting German portraitist and copyist .
Life
Wedekind received his training from Ernst Wilhelm Londicer . In 1698 he tried to get a job as a painter at the Swedish court, moved a year later to Lübeck and in 1700 to Reval, where he married. Until 1719 he worked as a painter mainly in Sweden and achieved fame as a portraitist of King Charles XII. , high military officials and well-known public figures. After a stopover in Narva , he was called to Saint Petersburg by Tsar Peter the Great in 1725 . From 1732 he served as a drawing teacher in the cadet corps.
