Johann Jacob Mascov

Johann Jacob Mascov (born November 26, 1689 in Danzig ; † May 21, 1761 in Leipzig ) was a Saxon lawyer .

Life

Mascov studied at the University of Leipzig mainly with Johann Burckhardt Mencke . After completing his master's degree in 1711, he went on an educational trip that took him to the Netherlands, France, England and Italy. In 1718 he was at the University of Halle for Doctor of Laws doctorate and was appointed associate professor at the Law Faculty of the University of Leipzig 1719th In 1719 Mascov became councilor of the city of Leipzig. Later he was proconsul, councilor and city judge and in 1732 by the Elector of Saxony and King of Poland Friedrich August I the Strongappointed councilor. Mascov became head of the council library in 1735. Here he introduced systematic cataloging. In 1755 the library in the (first) Gewandhaus was opened.

Mascovstrasse in the Leipzig district of Crottendorf was named after him in 1929.
