Johann Jakob Graf

Johann Jakob Graf (born October 18, 1781 in Heiden ; † June 17, 1847 in Trogen ; legal resident in Heiden) was a Swiss merchant and textile entrepreneur from Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

Life

Johann Jakob Graf was a son of Johann Konrad Graf, councilor, and Katharina Züst. In 1791 he married Susanna Zellweger, daughter of Johann Caspar Zellweger . Johann Jakob Graf completed his commercial training presumably in Lyon . He was the owner of the trading company Johann Jakob Graf et Compagnie in Trogen. In 1808 Johann Jakob Graf probably took over part of his father-in-law's business after his retirement into private life. In 1830 he took his son on as a business partner. In 1833 Johann Jakob Graf was the first to try out the new mechanical embroidery machines in Appenzell Ausserrhoden , but without success.
