Johann Jakob Greif

Johann Jakob Greif (also: Johann Jacob Greiff ; * 1699 in Meißen ; † January 16, 1767 in Mölbis ) was a German Lutheran theologian and historian.

Life

Greif attended the St. Afra high school in his hometown and studied at the University of Leipzig from the summer semester of 1718 . He later moved to the University of Wittenberg , where on October 16, 1723 he acquired the academic degree of a master's degree in philosophy. His theological studies earned him a job as Vespers preacher at the Paulinerkirche in Leipzig . He rose to theological service, took over the parish in Gerichshain in 1732 and became pastor in Mölbis the following year, where he worked until the end of his life.

Above all, Greif made outstanding contributions to the publication of the Leipzig edition of Martin Luther's works through his six years of activity . Among other things, he worked with Johann Heinrich Zedler as a publisher. In addition to some theological writings, he also dealt with the historical processing of Luther's house and church postil.
