Fritz Juntke

Fritz Juntke (born September 3, 1886 in Samter (Szamotuly) near Posen, † September 24, 1984 ) was a German librarian.

Live and act

Fritz Juntke studied law in Breslau and Königsberg . In December 1912 he passed the first state examination in law; In January 1913 he was at the University of Rostock to Dr. jur. PhD.

He then embarked on a career as a librarian. On April 1, 1913, he took up a position as a volunteer at the State and University Library in Breslau . On August 17, 1914, he passed the specialist examination required for his future career at the Göttingen University Library . In the meantime, Juntke was drafted into the military in the First World War. Because of an injury, he was not able to resume work until 1920, now at the State and University Library in Königsberg .

The other stations of his librarian career were the Prussian State Library in Berlin in 1925, the Greifswald University Library in 1927 and the Halle University Library in 1928 . In Greifswald and Halle he was the first library councilor and deputy director. With a brief interruption (1946 to 1948), Halle remained the place of his entire subsequent professional life, since 1948 as a research assistant at the University and State Library of Saxony-Anhalt.

Juntke has emerged with numerous publications over the decades (well into old age). His interest was in the areas of book history , binding studies and register research . He has made a special contribution to researching the history of the Wallenrodt Library in Königsberg .
