Johann Jakob Hottinger (historian)
Johann Jakob Hottinger (born May 18, 1783 in Zurich ; † May 17, 1860 in Zurich) was a Swiss writer and historian .
Hottinger studied theology in Zurich and Leipzig and held a teaching position at the daughter's school, then a professorship at the art school in his native city.
As an education councilor, member of the Grand Council and government council, he made a special contribution to the school system. He later became associate professor of history at the university in 1844. He was accepted into the Masonic Lodge Modestia cum libertate in Zurich in 1813 .
After the death of Robert Glutz von Blotzheim , he continued Johannes von Müller's history of Switzerland under the title: History of the Separation of the Swiss Churches (Vol. 1 and 2, Zurich 1825-29).
He also wrote:
- Huldreich Zwingli and his time (Zurich 1842),
- Lectures on the history of the fall of the Confederation of 13 towns (Zurich 1846),
- Johann Konrad Escher von der Linth (Zurich 1852), completed Johann Kaspar Bluntschlis
- History of the Republic of Zurich (Vol. 3, Zurich 1856),
He also edited the Swiss monthly chronicle and gave Heinrich Bullinger's Reformation History (1840, 3 vols.) With Vögeli , the archive for Swiss history and regional studies with Escher (Zurich 1827–1829, 3 vols.) And a Swiss museum for history with Wackernagel and Gerlach Sciences (1837–1839, 3 vol.) Out.
