Johann Jakob Weilenmann
Johann Jakob Weilenmann (born January 24, 1819 in St. Gallen ; † June 8, 1896 there ) was a Swiss alpinist . He made numerous first ascents in the Alps .
The son of a private school director completed an apprenticeship at the St. Gallen textile trading company Johann Conrad Fehr . Weilenmann worked for this company as a businessman in New York and in Pernambuco . In Brazil he built up a collection of insects, which he later donated to the Zurich Polytechnic . After 1850 he lived in St. Gallen again and started climbing. In 1863 he was one of the founders of the Swiss Alpine Club .
