The Ramolkogel is a mountain with several peaks in the Ramolkamm , which branches off north of the west-east running main ridge of the Ötztal Alps . The mountain ridge is located in the Austrian state of Tyrol . A distinction is made between the large one with a height of 3549  m above sea level. A. the highest peak of the ridge, the middle one ( 3518  m ), the small one with 3349  m height and the northern Ramolkogel ( 3427  m ) also called Anichspitze , after the Tyrolean cartographer Peter Anich . The mountain peaks have a large geographical dominance , especially to the northeast, towards Obergurgl , a district of the municipality of Sölden . The Große Ramolkogel was first climbed on July 18, 1862 by St. Gallen alpinist Johann Jakob Weilenmann single- handedly.

Location and surroundings

The Ramol group is about 5 kilometers as the crow flies southwest of Obergurgl in the Gurgler Valley . It is surrounded by glaciers in the north and east , while steep scree slopes descend into the Venter Valley in the south-west and west . The Latschferner has its nutrient area on the north face of the Great Ramolkogel, in the east the Ramolferner is formed from a firn field below the Anichspitze and the Middle Ramolkogel. The only significant neighboring mountain in the south, separated by the Ramoljoch ( 3189  m ), is the Hintere Spiegelkogel at 3424  m .

Base and inspection

Weilenmann's ascent on July 18, 1862 began in Vent . After waiting in vain for his mountain guide Nicodemus Klotz, he wanted to hike alone over the Ramoljoch to Gurgl. On his way he decided to climb the Great Ramolkogel. His route led over the southwest side to the summit. Today's normal route , the easiest ascent up the mountain, leads as a high-altitude tour with appropriate equipment from the Ramolhaus in the south , at an altitude of 3005  m , over the northeast ridge to the Middle Ramolkogel. The tour runs north of the hut over the Ramolferner up to a firn-covered saddle at 3367  m between the Anichspitze and the Middle Ramolkogel. In a westerly direction it goes over the east ridge in, according to literature, easy to moderately difficult climbing with difficulty levels UIAA I to II to the Middle and Great Ramolkogel, and northeast further to the Anichspitze in a walking time of 4 to 5 hours.
