Josef Bernt

Johann Josef Bernt (born September 14, 1770 in Leitmeritz , † April 27, 1842 in Vienna ) was an Austrian forensic doctor .

Life

Bernt studied medicine at the University of Prague and received his doctorate in 1797 . From 1808 he was professor in Prague , from 1813 in Vienna, an office which he held until his death. From 1832 Bernt was editor of the medical yearbooks .

In Vienna, under Bernt's aegis, an institute with a hall for forensic medicine autopsies was set up, from which the later Institute for Forensic Medicine Vienna (GMW) emerged. His successor was Jakob Kolletschka .
