Johann Kofler

Johann Kofler (born December 7, 1838 in Sterzing , South Tyrol ; † July 5, 1906 ) was mayor of Sterzing until 1892 and later a member of the state parliament .

Life

Johann Kofler was born in Sterzing in 1838 as the son of the pharmacist Franz Kofler and Anna Bergmeister . He completed his studies with a master's degree in pharmacy and practiced in Innsbruck and Trieste . In 1867 he married Elisabeth von Klebelsberg from Bruneck . At a young age, the population entrusted him with the office of mayor, which he held until 1892.

He was mainly concerned with the modernization of the city of Sterzing ; under him the construction of the Vallerbach, the completion of the spire after a fire, the construction of the first public weighing machine , the purchase of the German house and the establishment of a hospital took place there. He was also responsible for the dumping of the Sterzinger Moos, the construction of the sewer system and he was a co-founder of the dairy company.

Johann Kofler was also a member of the state parliament for a time.

In 1904 he was made an honorary citizen of the city because of his services and received the Golden Cross of Merit with the crown .
