Johann Leonhard Appold
Johann Leonhard Appold (born October 12, 1809 in Dennenlohe , Middle Franconia , † December 5, 1858 in Nuremberg ) was a German copper and steel engraver.
Live and act
Johann Leonhard Appold learned the art of engraving from Felix Grünewald in Nuremberg.
Appold settled in the city, where he worked as a well-known engraver and graphic artist and created numerous high-quality engravings, often based on models by other artists.
In 1836 he married Karolina born in Nuremberg. Stoek. With her he had the son Karl Appold (1840-1884), who learned engraving from his father and later worked as a painter and illustrator in Munich.
