Johann Ludwig Schlosser (born October 11, 1702 in St. Goar , † April 7, 1754 in Hamburg ) was a German Lutheran theologian and chief pastor of St. Katharinen .

Life

Schlosser came from a pastor's family. After his father Philipp Casimir Schlosser's appointment as superintendent and consistorial councilor in Marburg , he went to school here and studied at the University of Giessen from 1717 . In 1729 he went on a study trip via Hamburg to the Netherlands and received his master's degree in Giessen the following year.

His first position as pastor was at the Neustädter Kirche (Hanover) . In 1733 he was elected deacon (2nd pastor) at the Katharinenkirche in Hamburg and in 1741 as the main pastor there. Georg Philipp Telemann performed a cantata for his introduction . He was regarded as a highly learned theologian, haunted pulpit speaker and practical pastor and made a name for himself as the author of many popular devotional books. From 1733 he was married to Johanna Hedwig Winckler, a granddaughter of Johann Winckler .

His successor Johann Melchior Goeze called the early deceased an ornament of the Hamburg Ministerii - which, however, was also directed against Schlosser's son of the same name, Johann Ludwig Schlosser (1738–1815), with whom Goeze fought the second Hamburg theater dispute in 1768/69 .
