Johann Mach

Johann Mach (born December 2, 1934 in German Gießhübel , South Bohemia , † June 19, 1999 in Rostock ) was a German orthopedist and university professor in Rostock.

Life

Mach's parents were the bricklayer Johann Mach and his wife Katharina. Mach attended high school in Rostock and studied human medicine at the University of Rostock from 1954 . After the state examination in 1959, he was awarded a Dr. med. PhD.

The compulsory assistant at various Rostock clinics was followed in 1961 by specialist training with Harro Seyfarth at the Orthopedic University Clinic. He became senior physician in 1967 and completed his habilitation in 1970. He was appointed university lecturer in 1978 and associate professor in 1982 . 1986 Brown University in Providence. In 1992 he acquired the specialization in rheumatology . In 1993 he became the successor of the same age Dietrich Jaster to o. Professor appointed and clinic director.

After the reunification and peaceful revolution in the GDR , he sat on the faculty council and in the chamber assembly of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Medical Association until his death . At the Federal Ministry of Health , he worked in the testing work group.

Mach, who was Catholic, also studied the representation of illness and medicine in medieval art.
