Harro Seyfarth

Harro Seyfarth (born February 6, 1921 in Chemnitz ; † August 13, 2011 ) was a German surgeon and orthopedist. He worked as a university professor in Jena, Rostock and Leipzig.

Life

After graduating from high school in Chemnitz, Seyfarth served in the Wehrmacht from 1938 to 1945 , most recently as a field doctor. He also studied medicine at the University of Leipzig from 1940 to 1945 . In 1945 he was a compulsory assistant in a reserve hospital and in hospitals in Chemnitz. In 1945 he was promoted to Dr. med. PhD . From 1945 he was an assistant doctor, from 1949 senior physician in Chemnitz hospitals. Specialist in surgery since 1951 . he went to the surgical-orthopedic clinic of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena as a senior physician . There he became a specialist in orthopedics in 1953 . He completed his habilitation for this subject in Jena in 1954. From 1955 to 1959 he was a district orthopedist in the Jena and Rudolstadt districts . In 1955 he became a lecturer in surgery at the University of Jena . From 1957 to 1959 he headed the orthopedic department of the surgical clinic.

In 1959 he was appointed professor with a teaching position for orthopedics. In the same year (1959) he went to Rostock University as a professor for 16 years . At the same time he headed the healing center for bone tuberculosis in Graal-Müritz .

In 1975 he moved to the University of Leipzig as full professor for orthopedics . In 1986 he retired .

Honorary positions

Since 1963 a board member, he was 1970–1973 and 1975–1981 chairman of the Society for Orthopedics of the GDR. In 1966/67 he headed the Orthopedics Problem Committee at the Council for Planning and Coordination of Medical Science. From 1967 to 1986 he was on the chair for orthopedics at the Academy for Medical Training in the GDR . From 1984 to 1987 he was editor-in-chief of the journal Articles for Orthopedics and Traumatology .
