Johann Michl

Johann Michl (born September 25, 1904 in Munich ; † July 4, 1977 there ) was a German Roman Catholic clergyman of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising , theologian ( New Testament scholar ) and university professor. He taught as a professor of New Testament exegesis at the Philosophical-Theological University of Freising and at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich .

Life

Johann Michl was born as the son of Franz and Rosa Katharina Michl (née Reitmayr). After studying philosophy and theology at the University of Munich from 1923 to 1927, he was on 26 June 1928 in Freising by Cardinal Michael Faulhaber for ordained priests . From 1928 to 1930 he worked as a pastor in Munich, from 1930 to 1932 as chaplain at the Collegio Teutonico di Santa Maria dell'Anima in Rome , and from 1932 to 1934 he was active as chaplain in Rome and Munich. In 1935 he received his doctorate in Munich. From 1939 he represented professorships for New Testament biblical studies at the Philosophical-Theological University of Freising and the Philosophical-Theological University of Regensburg .

In 1939 he was at the Theological Faculty of the University of Munich habilitation . In 1940 he was appointed head of the Allerheiligenhofkirche in Munich. From 1945 he taught as an associate professor and from 1948 as a full professor at the Philosophical-Theological University of Freising. There he was also rector from 1949 to 1952 and 1963 to 1969.

After the dissolution of the Philosophical-Theological University Freising on August 31, 1969 and the transfer of its chairs to the LMU Munich, he became a full professor for New Testament exegesis there in 1969 . In 1972 he retired .
