Johann Nikolaus Franz Seydelmann (born October 8, 1748 in Dresden ; † October 17, 1806 there ) was a German singer (tenor) and composer .

He was the son of the electoral chamber musician Francesco Seydelmann (Franz Joseph Seydelmann). His brother was the sepia painter Jakob Crescenz Seydelmann . In 1765 Franz went to Italy with Johann Gottlieb Naumann and trained as a tenor and then worked as such for the rest of his life. In 1772 he was a church composer in Dresden and became Kapellmeister on January 20, 1787. He wrote operas (for example Il turco in Italia ), singspiels, songs, three oratorios and 36 masses. His Mass No. 27 for solos, choir and orchestra was performed at Christmas 2009 and 2016 in the Catholic Court Church in Dresden .

Some of his Masonic songs have been published in paperback for social enjoyment as well as in the Masonic Songbook of the Apple Lodge. Seydelmann died in Dresden in 1806 and was buried in the Old Catholic Cemetery.

For the city anniversary of Dresden, Henriette Sehmsdorf staged the oratorio La mort d'Abèle ( The Death of Abel ), which was performed on June 2, 2006 in the Hygiene Museum .

The compositional estate of Franz Seydelmann is kept in the music department of the Saxon State Library - State and University Library Dresden (shelf mark: Mus.3550-…). It contains music autographs, copies and prints totaling around 350 catalog numbers.
