Schwanthaler

The Schwanthaler family was a family of sculptors from the Baroque and Rococo periods (17th – 19th centuries) in Ried im Innkreis in the Innviertel .

Hans Schwa (be) nthaler founded a sculptor's workshop in Ried in 1632, which existed until 1838. The Schwanthaler family of sculptors was resident and artistically active in Ried for over two centuries. The main masters of the Rieder Werkstätte include Thomas, Johann Franz and Johann Peter the Elder.

A branch of the sculpting family worked in Munich for two generations. The most famous representative of it is Ludwig Michael - creator of Bavaria .
