Johann Pollak (sculptor)

Johann Pollak (born March 27, 1843 in Rain ; † February 12, 1917 in Munich ) was a German sculptor , wood carver and painter .

Life

Johann Pollak's parents were the silver worker Johann Pollak (1808-1884) and his wife Anna Pollak. He was born in the previous building of today's house at 32 Hauptstrasse in Rain. There has been a memorial plaque on the house since 2009. Johann Pollak had two younger siblings, Xaver (1846-1918) and Lina (1854-1935). He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich , where he also worked as a professor. He has received art commissions from Rome, Paris, Brussels, London, Chicago and India. Pollak died unmarried in 1917 and was buried in the Westfriedhof in Munich . The grave was abandoned in 1939.

Pollak was a member of the General German Art Cooperative .

  • The porcelain manufactory Meissen acquired two models of Pollak, the Cupid with slippers and Heiraths Contract and Cupid with two hearts arrow piercing .

  • Chest portrait bronze relief by Franz Lachner , which was attached to the house where he was born (today the Gebrüder Lachner Museum ) on Kirchplatz in Rain in 1890, the year of his death .
  • Plastic Pollakgel , tombstone in the old part of the Rainer cemetery, directly on the left at the main entrance. Pollak's work was written for his parents shortly after 1890. The tomb shows a grieving angel sitting on a sarcophagus, holding a palm branch in his left hand.
