Johann Rabe (also: Johann Raben and Johannis Raben ; * April 10, 1672 in Hanover ; † September 15, 1748 ibid) was a Protestant pastor .

Life

Johann Rabe was born in the royal seat of Hanover in 1672 as the son of the Hanoverian citizen and brewer Conrad Rabe (* around 1638) and Margaretha Catharina Funckin or Funcken (* around 1647).

Rabe attended the old town school and in 1692 went to Jena for the first time to the university there , and in 1693 again. Back in his hometown, he was initially in the private service of the electoral Hanoverian privy councilor Jobst Hermann von Ilten for five years before, surprisingly, in 1700 he was appointed as a preacher for the Simeonis Congregation in Minden , although he had previously been almost completely unknown in the city there.

In 1701 Johann Rabe married Christina Maria, the eldest daughter of the preacher of the Electorate of Hanover, David Rupert Erythropel . After the death of Bernhard Friedrich Barteldes (1655–1702), Rabe was appointed pastor on June 15, 1702 at the Aegidienkirche in Hanover .

In 1714, the preacher who worked at St. Aegidia was elected senior in the Hanoverian spiritual city ministry .

Rabe's daughter Hedewig Dorothea Catharina married the preacher Justus Ludolph Vietke, who worked in Limmer , on the day of Rabe's parents' golden wedding anniversary on October 31, 1720 .

Johann Rabe wrote a catalog of the so-called "older library" of the Aegidienkirche - differentiating it from the "Löwenschen Bibliothek" - as well as various funeral sermons , including for the pastor of the Aegidienkirche community Johann Dietrich Löwensen and his wife.
