Jobst Hermann von Ilten

Jobst Hermann von Ilten (born September 1, 1649 in Gestorf ; † June 27, 1730 in Hanover ) was an electoral Hanoverian officer, minister of state and diplomat .

Origin and family environment

Jobst Hermann von Ilten came from a Lower Saxon nobility family who had inherited in Gestorf near Hanover . He was born on September 1, 1649 in Gesdorf as the son of Johann Georg von Ilten (1609–1674) and his second wife Anna Margarethe Bock von Wülfingen (1623–1699).

Political and military offices

Jobst Hermann entered the military service of his sovereign and quickly advanced to the rank of lieutenant general . He also became President of the War Chancellery and thus the function of Minister of War , initially without a ministerial title. He was later awarded the title of Minister of State and a Real Privy Councilor . Since his sovereign, Elector George I, was mostly abroad because of his position as King of England at the same time , he was often left to his own devices and was more or less free to control and exercise. Since Georg I attached particular importance to good neighborly relations with Prussia - Friedrich Wilhelm I was married to a Hanoverian princess - Jobst Hermann was also used as a diplomat and sent as an envoy to Berlin and Dresden.

Jobst Hermann von Ilten was married to Hedwig Louise Grote (1649-1727) since November 23, 1682 . The marriage had three sons and two daughters:
