Johann Dietrich Löwensen (also: Johann Diderich Loevensen and Johann Dieterich Lövensen as well as Johannes Dietrich Lövensen or Johannes Ditericus Loevensen and other name variants; * October 13, 1647 in Alfeld an der Leine ; † February 22, 1708 in Hanover ) was a Hanoverian Protestant pastor and Book collector .

Life

Löwensen was born in Alfeld shortly before the end of the Thirty Years' War in 1647 as the son of Camerarius Dietrich Lövensen and Margaretha Arens. He studied in Goslar , Hildesheim and Helmstedt and was awarded the title of Magister in 1675 . In 1678 he was appointed to the Aegidienkirche in Hanover as a preacher .

Johannes Dietrich Lövensen married Lucie or Lucia, daughter of the pharmacist Sellenstedt from the Hanoverian Ratsapotheke and widow of Henrich Meyer. The marriage remained childless.

The pastor increased the “old library” found at the Aegidienkirche in Löwensen over the decades by around 1,300 additional books, in addition to rare works in particular theological and Reformation-related writings, the so-called Löwensensche Library .

The funeral sermon for the pastor of the Aegidiengemeinde, who died on March 22, 1708, and his different wife a few days later on March 3, 1708, was given by Pastor Johann Rabe . The widow had appointed the Lord Chamberlain and Chief Paymaster Johann Erich Schilden as heir , who was to make further arrangements for the library she had donated to the city.
