Johann Resch (born November 11, 1890 in Pottschach ; † April 26, 1960 in Vienna ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and a leading city councilor.

Resch grew up as the son of a host family. Since his parents' inn in Währing was a meeting point for social democratic party and trade union life, Resch came into contact with politics early on. Resch studied at the theological college, but switched to community service in 1910. He became chairman of the Meidling workers' council and built up the social democratic teaching organization in Meidling. In 1920 Resch was appointed to the town hall by the city councilor Hugo Breitner and became one of his closest collaborators. Among other things, he was entrusted with the handling of the welfare tax, and he also took on planning administrative tasks. After he was appointed to the management of the city trams in 1927, he began to reorganize the loss-making transport company. In 1930 he was subsequently appointed director.

After the suppression of the Austrian Civil War , Resch was dismissed from the community service due to his political views, whereupon he worked in the private sector and was authorized signatory from 1940. After the end of the Second World War he was again director of the transport company and in 1946 was promoted to general director of Wiener Stadtwerke. On December 5, 1949, he was sworn in as a member of the state parliament and member of the municipal council, of which he was a member until December 11, 1959. After the death of Paul Speiser , Resch was elected to the Vienna provincial government on November 20, 1947 and took over the finance department. Resch headed the department until September 17, 1957 and thus belonged to the state governments of Körner II and III as well as Jonas I and II . Furthermore, Resch was a member of the financial advisory board of the SPÖ, chairman of the transport section of the Chamber of Commerce and vice-president of the Austrian association. In addition, between 1951 and 1956 he was Vice President of the Austrian National Bank.

After his death, Resch was buried in a grave of honor (Group 14C, No. 26) in the Vienna Central Cemetery .
