Johann Rose (born March 26, 1654 - † May 22, 1716 ) was a German bell founder . He worked in Volkstedt .

Life

Johann Rose was the son of Christoph Rose (1630–1675), bell founder in Volkstedt . He continued to run the bell foundry founded by his father after his death. His youngest son Johann Wolfgang Rose (1699–1750) continued the family business after his death.

Johann Rose was married to Barbara Rose; the couple had seven children: five sons - such as Johann Christoph Rose and Martin Rose - and two daughters.

Create

The rose bell foundry is said to have been located near the church and cemetery. At that time it was also customary to cast large bells at their future destinations, for example to avoid transport problems.

Between 1699 and 1716, 28 places are known where bells by Johann Rose were hanging. In the Apolda Bell Museum, for example, you can see a rose clock bell from 1696, and in Jena in the “Collegium Jenense” the damaged rose bell from the University of Jena.

With their work, Johann Rose's sons Johann Christoph Rose and Martin Rose laid the foundation for the almost three centuries-old tradition of bell foundry in Apolda .
