Johann Sebastian Pfauser , also Johann Phauser , (* 1520 in Konstanz ; † June 6, 1569 in Lauingen ) was a Lutheran theologian , court preacher in Vienna and superintendent in Lauingen.

Life

Pfauser was court preacher to Emperor Maximilian II. Through his influence Maximilian was instructed to abandon purely Catholic customs, to read Protestant literature and to refuse to receive the Lord's Supper according to the Catholic rite. However, Maximilian did not convert to the Protestant faith.

He was in contact with Heinrich Bullinger and faced Petrus Canisius in public disputations .
