Johann Speymann
Johann Speymann , also Johann Speimann (* 1563 ; † September 3, 1625 ) was a German mayor , councilor and merchant in Danzig .
Johann Speymann studied in Cracow , Strasbourg , Wittenberg , Königsberg , Heidelberg , Padua , Pisa and Siena .
During his stay in Italy he was raised to the rank of nobility by Pope Clement VIII . Back in Danzig he was mainly concerned with the export of grain to Italy.
From 1601 to 1603 he was a lay judge of the city court, from 1603 to 1613 as councilor and from 1613 to 1625 as mayor of Gdansk.
Together with Mayor Bartholomäus Schachmann , he promoted the construction of important buildings in Gdańsk: the Neptune Fountain , the Great Armory , the Speymann House (his family seat) and the Langgasser Tor .
On July 29, 1596 he married Judith Bahr. As a wealthy man, he left his four daughters the Speymannhaus on Long Market as well as a granary and a summer residence not far from Gdansk.
In the art trade appeared in Hamburg on 16./17. November 2009 Speymann's “Album amicorum” from 1585 with entries from 87 friends and acquaintances of Speymann and 38 heraldic shields in watercolor .
