Johann Ulrich Zasius

Johann Ulrich Zasius (born April 11, 1521 in Freiburg im Breisgau , † April 27, 1570 ) was imperial councilor on behalf of King Ferdinand I and Emperor Maximilian II.

Johann Ulrich was the son of the lawyer Ulrich Zasius . From 1544 in royal service he was often involved in negotiations with the imperial princes; so with the Bavarian dukes, but also with Duke Christoph von Württemberg and the Landgrave Philip of Hesse . Zasius was often present at the Reichstag , where he acted as Austria's spokesman in the Princely Council. He was closely involved in the negotiations on the religious peace in Augsburg . In 1556 he held the office of Reichstag commissioner . In the same year he played a key role in the preparation of the Landsberger Bund . In politics at the imperial court, he was one of the supporters of Reich Vice Chancellor Georg Sigmund Seld . He was Vice Chancellor himself from 1566 until his death.

Zasius had been married several times.
