Johann Weichmann

Johann Weichmann , also Wichmann (born January 9, 1620 in Wolgast ; † July 24, 1652 in Königsberg (Prussia) ) was a German composer and music director in the old town of Königsberg. He belonged to the Königsberg poet circle around Simon Dach and Heinrich Albert .

Life

Johann Weichmann was organist at St. Petri and Paul in Danzig from 1639 to 1640 . He then studied at the Albertina in Königsberg until 1643 . Then he went to Wehlau as organist and cantor . In 1647 he became cantor and music director at the old town church in Königsberg.

Works

Weichmann wrote occasional compositions for occasions such as weddings, funerals, and other celebrations. In 1643 he published " New sacred and secular songs " in Königsberg and in 1647 Musica or Singekunst, which are now considered lost. Two volumes of dance music pieces appeared in 1644 and 1649. 1648 appeared in Koenigsberg with " Sorgen-Lägerin / this is a number of sacred and secular parts for prayer and lust for honor " a large collection with 64-verse songs, including texts by Martin Opitz and Johann Franck .
