Johann Waller , from 1871 Knight von Waller (born October 12, 1811 in Flöhau near Podersam , Bohemia , † October 17, 1880 in Prague ) was an Austrian doctor.

Life

Waller was the son of the citizen Karl Waller and Maria Anna Rudiger. He studied medicine at the Charles University in Prague , where he worked as Dr. med et chir. received his doctorate . From 1844 to 1845 he was a substitute teacher at the medical clinic for surgeons. Two years later he became the primary physician in the Syphilis and Skin Diseases Department at the General Hospital. From July 14, 1850 he was professor of general pathology and pharmacology at the University of Prague, on June 9, 1859 he was appointed full professor there. In 1879 he retired for health reasons.

Johann was a brother of the surgeon at Prague University and Saaz city doctor Karl Waller († 1878 Saaz ). Ritter von Waller is an uncle of Maria Katharina Balogh de Böd born. Waller (* 1838 Saaz ), wife of the Rittmeister in the 5th Radetzky Hussar Regiment Julius Balogh de Böd. Knight v. Waller married Laura Pleischel (Pleischl) from Prague in 1846, and they have two daughters who were born in Prague. His wife Laura Edle von Waller died on July 25, 1889 in Vienna. She is the sister of Maria von Oppolzer, nee. Pleischl (Pleischel), wife of the Austrian doctor and internist Johann Oppolzer . Johann Ritter von Waller was buried on October 19, 1880 in the Wolschaner cemetery in Prague, and in 1907 he was demolished and transferred to Vienna. His daughters Laura and Helene are also buried in the family grave in the Grinzing cemetery.

Waller's achievements are mainly in the field of syphilis. In 1851 he demonstrated the contagiousness of secondary syphilis through the positive failure of a transmission ( inoculation ) of the secretion from oozing pustules and blood from syphilis patients to children not suffering from syphilis , which was demonstrated by Franz von Rinecker , Joseph-Frédéric Guyenot and Léon Bassereau (1810 –1887) was confirmed in the following year 1852.

Waller was awarded the Iron Crown Order 3rd Class on August 5, 1871 in Vienna to the Austrian knighthood.
