Career

Johanna Bassani at the Nordic Mixed Team Competition of the 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games

Bassani, who started for UVB Hinzenbach, won the city championship in skiing in her hometown of Attnang-Puchheim at the age of twelve . While she also did athletics in her youth , she did not begin ski jumping until 2016 in Eisenerz, according to her trainer Bernhard Aicher . She made her international debut at the Nordic Ski Games of the OPA 2018 in Planica , where she was sixth in the individual and bronze medalist with the Austrian team. In the years that followed, she regularly competed in the Alpine Ski Jumping Cup and the Nordic Combined Alpine Cup . Again she took part in the Nordic Ski Games of the OPA 2019 in Kandersteg , where she defended third place with the team.

On her debut in the 2019 Grand Prix in Klingenthal , Bassani finished 18th and won her first points straight away. A few weeks later, she reached the podium in the Alpine Cup for the first time in Predazzo . In October, Bassani won the silver medal behind Lisa Hirner at the first Austrian state championship in Nordic combined . In winter, her focus was on the 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne . After finishing eighth in the Gundersen singles, Bassani was part of the cross-disciplinary Austrian Nordic mixed team. Together with her teammates, she won the silver medal, for which the mayor of her hometown personally congratulated her. When she made her debut in the Continental Cup in Eisenerz about a month later, she finished eleventh in the mass start with a large field of participants. The next day she reached the points. She was then appointed to the Austrian team for the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2020 in Oberwiesenthal .

Outside of sport, Bassani completed an apprenticeship as a designer at the Nordic Training Center in Eisenerz .

Bassani died in May 2020, a few days after her 18th birthday.
