Johanna Drucker

Johanna Drucker (born May 30, 1952 ) is an American author, book artist, visual theorist and cultural critic . In her scientific publications she documents and criticizes visual language: letter forms, typography , visual poetry , art and digital aesthetics. Drucker is a professor in the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles .

At the California College of Arts and Crafts printer received her BFA in 1973; from the University of California, Berkeley , she received her Masters degree in 1982 and her Ph.D. The Maryland Institute College of Art awarded her an honorary doctorate in 2016 .

Drucker was a professor of media studies at the University of Virginia and taught at Purchase College, SUNY, Yale University (1994–1998), Columbia University (1989–1994) and the University of Texas at Dallas .

Drucker was a Digital Humanities Fellow at the Stanford Humanities Center, a Digital Cultures Fellow at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a Mellon Faculty Fellow in Fine Arts at Harvard University .

Drucker is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
