Life

Johanna Klinckerfuß was first a student of Moritz Beer, then studied at the Conservatory in Stuttgart and completed her studies with Franz Liszt in Weimar . At first she worked in Northern Germany. In early 1874 she married the Stuttgart piano manufacturer Apollo Klinckerfuß and was present in the city's musical life for decades. She gave several concerts in Leipzig . The press judged that this pianist's technique was eminent and that it was associated with a “rare power and energy of playing”. There is hardly another contemporary pianist to be found who can play the last movement of Rubinstein's D minor Concerto with such bravura. From King Karl of Württembergshe was appointed court pianist to the royal Württemberg and was holder of the Golden Medal for Art and Science on the ribbon of the Order of Frederick . The daughter Margarete Klinckerfuß was also a pianist and in 1947 published an autobiography that is valuable for musicology.
